RMPS History

In late 2011, the infamous Rodney Donald McRae had a rare opportunity to buy in to RM Reps Co., an established Colorado-based, electrical manufacturing sales representative agency. Then, in early 2012, Rod created a new Montana engineering-based company also name RM Reps Co. This was a way to create a marriage between sales and engineering, a unique approach to proving the best technical support to the end user. Although the two companies shared the same name, they were run as separate entities.

Rod’s previous tenure as a sales representative for renown electrical distributor company catapulted him in the electrical power industry. Coupled with Rod’s engineering background and time spent with small Montana Co-Op’s, his knowledge of power was highly regarded throughout the country. He had experience in every aspect of the industry. From Oil & Gas to providing power solutions to a small Eskimo tribe in Alaska, Rod had seen it all. Rod’s approach to business and life in general was simple. Do the best job you can while maintaining a high level of integrity and trust amongst your peers. This philosophy developed years of friendships and customer relations that spread from coast-to-coast. This is what has developed into what RM is now today.

In early 2012, Rod was approached by an old colleague that he had worked with during the methane boom in the Wyoming. Rod had previously designed and managed the construction the electrical distribution infrastructure that supported the gas play at that time. When the colleague approach him this time, it was regarding the shale oil play developing in Colorado and Northern Wyoming. Since the play was in the beginning stages, a new power distribution network was required to to meet the strict Colorado emissions standards. Rod knew this opportunity was going to require a full-time individual to assure the job was done to his standards.

In February of 2012, Rod had put the word out that he was looking to hire a young engineer to embed into the oil company’s field office to manage the project going forward. Along came Tyler Ambrosino, a 24-year-old electrical engineer looking for new employment at the time. Tyler was in his first job out of college in Texas and was looking for new opportunities to work closer to his hometown in Wyoming. While driving from Wyoming back to Texas, Tyler was contacted by his father about the opportunity that Rod McRae had in the works. In the middle of nowhere, Tyler pulled over and immediately sent Rod his resume. Both Rod and Tyler agreed to meet in Denver for an informal interview a few weeks later. Liking what he heard, Tyler flew back to Texas and immediately quit his job. Days later he was loading up a U-haul and was Colorado bound. During that drive Tyler called Rod and said, “Hey Rod, just so you know, I quit my job and on my way to Colorado!”. To much surprise Rod had not formalized the Master Service Agreements yet with the oil company so Tyler’s employment was in flux at the time. Tyler spent a few days in panic but eventually the MSA was finalized.

Tyler’s first day was a memorable one. Before Tyler could get into the door at the field office, he was immediately intercepted by the oil & gas operational manager. They proceeded straight to the field and Tyler was in disbelief of what he got himself into. Meanwhile, the gentleman that originally reached out to Rod about this opportunity was calling Rod wondering if something happened to Tyler. He said something to the effect of “Something must have happened to Tyler on his way in this morning. I haven’t heard from him all morning!”.   Right then, the Operations manager sent a group text indicating he poached Tyler before he set foot in the door. From that day forward, the foundation of RM Reps CO engineering was formed.

Fast forwarding to 2017, old man McRae was nearing retirement. He knew his succession plan needed to be set in place. After much negotiation, Rod and Tyler formulated an agreement that would make Tyler the new owner of RM Reps Co, the Montana based entity. Since Tyler had made Colorado home, it was only appropriate to incorporate the RM brand in Colorado. Since Rod’s other sale rep agency had already barred the RM Reps CO name, RM Power Solutions was officially born January 1st, 2018. RM Power Solutions continues to grow year-in and year-out. Servicing the Rocky Mountain region while continuing to operation under the Rod McRae integrity and trust mentality.
